Mushroom Sauce

I serve this sauce with either steak or chicken, great with mashed potatoes and some vegetables or salad.

500 grams button mushrooms, thinly sliced
3 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1/2 cup chicken or vegetable stock
1 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon dijon mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon chilli flakes (optional)
salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Melt butter in a pan over medium-high heat.
Stir in mushrooms and garlic. Saute 3-4 minutes until mushrooms are browned.

Stir in stock, cream, dijon, Worcestershire, chilli flakes if using, salt and pepper. Continue to stir periodically for 5-8 minutes until liquid is reduced and thickened and creamy.

Taste, add more salt and pepper if needed. Serve over steak or chicken and top with additional cracked black pepper if desired enjoy!
