I volunteer for a specific charity for a couple of hours, once a year and have been doing it for over 10 years. I have other commitments, but it doesn't stop me. However, others of similar age will say they don't have time for it. Would you volunteer some of your time for a good cause even if you have other commitments?

I use cinnamon sticks in jars keeps fly's and ants at bay having a few basil plants at your back door and windows keeps them away and the you have the old apple cider vinegar and a wee bit of soap kills them better than those fly traps you get at bunnings that smell like a rotten corpse, even burning those incense sticks i found helps also lavender and clove leaves, far cheaper than any pesticide you get from supermarkets

What s the most ridiculous or weird way you ve ever injured yourself or nearly met your demise ? As a very small child of 2 - 3 yrs I apparently somehow picked up a lit 'penny bunger' firecracker. This was back in the days when Cracker night saw adult & kids everywhere letting off fireworks in their backyards, parks etc. Lucky for me an older brother saw me, grabbed it & threw it before it went off, otherwise I could have been either seriously injured or...

My friend and I, both about 10 years old, decided to raid Dad's drinks cabinet while he and Mum were out. I took a gulp of whisky to see what it was like, hated it and chucked the remains into the open fire. Whoosh, flames swept up onto the mantelpiece and a miniature Christmas tree caught fire, we panicked, I grabbed it to take it outside and burned my hand - boy did we have some explaining to do! Lucky escape for me and our living room I reckon.

I want to see DC a lot especially because my family and friends have visited there many times and even took the WH and Capitol Rotunda tours. I know...I once said that you should never help a survey...right at the end when they want and ask you to.....I pointed out that a question asked "When would you typically buy fresh chicken products?"...and that the answers were "breakfast as a snack lunch or dinner"...and so it was impossible to answer.....I was flung out...after the survey...for wanting to help..and give an honest answer...with 12 points....they are touchy people and want that last box...

I can see now why Dad (He passed over in 1995) and my friends all like the NFL and the CFL as well as college football. My fave team is the N'Orleans (Who let them dogs out?) Saints. In HS even though Dad played in the NFL for the Eagles, Steelers and the after WW II Steagles when the NFL was short on manpower and combined teams, I never wanted to play football so my coach said that I could be his assistant. It was fun making up plays and now I see those plays being used by HS, college and pro teams. The Saints won the SuperBowl with my option play. Simple to do- the entre snaps the ball to the QB who immediately hands off to another player who drops back as he is now QB. Meanwhile when the entire front line including the QB breaks downfield, the defense is going nuts and since not all players can be covered all the new QB does is choose the one deepest downfield who is not covered and the result is always a first down catch and many times that guy scores a touchdown! We lost Dad in 1995 and Mom in 2010 and my younger brother Bobby went in 2020. All of them, including my surviving brother Pete, loved the Eagles and Cowboys.

Cutting off family can be emotionally painful. It might bring on grief - not just for the relationship, but for the idea of the family you never had. You may experience judgment from others who don't understand your decision. What's it really like to cut off a toxic family member?

Not cut off, but I make no effort to see them anymore. I’m still ‘nice’ to my MIL, but I no longer let her manipulate me after 16 years of letting things slide and just sucking it up. She told me I was a terrible wife to her son and definitely not her ‘cup of tea.’ He sided with her, so the next day when she sobered up and admitted, “I think I might have overreacted last night,” I told her I’d no longer do anything extra but would still be polite—because that’s who I am. There are two things that will always lift my mood. One is flowers. I have been called a "flower nut". Just glancing at my flowers on my balcony puts me in a good mood, or seeing them in someone's garden as I walk by. My second mood lifter is music. I started listening to my father's radio when I was five years old, and I was always wearing out the batteries. When he couldn't find the radio he knew it would be with me. To make these smoked pork fajitas, start by seasoning a pork roast with a dry rub of salt, pepper, garlic, and cumin, then smoke it at 225°F using wood until the internal temperature reaches 145°F for a loin or 205°F for a shoulder. Once the meat has rested and been sliced into thin strips, saute sliced bell peppers and onions, fajitas seasoning in a hot skillet until they are charred and tender. Some people enjoy living in a big city, while others prefer a small town. In my opinion, living in a big city is better because there are more job opportunities, schools, hospitals, and places to visit. People can enjoy shopping centers, restaurants, parks, and many kinds of entertainment. Public transportation is also usually better in a city. However, big cities can be crowded, noisy, and expensive. Small towns are quieter and safer, and people may know each other better....

It is all over the news lately that the President of the USA wants to annex Canada. I think this is taking it a little too far in his dream of conquering the world. Canada may not be as populated as the USA, however, it can hold its own. Canada has participated in many improvements over the years, and it is well liked all over the world. Everyone wants to wear a Canadian patch when they are visiting overseas.
WonkyandProud
I am an American, and I did NOT vote for Trump and will not bow down to him! Many of us are outrage and are protesting against this. It is all over YouTube that Americans are on the side of the Canadians. We support you, and I feel I should cross the border to Canada and fight the US to defend you. However, I love my country, but this is not the country thopat I am proud of. You would not believe the people who are Trump supporters and thinks he is accomplishing great things! He cares only for himself and his power. We are terrified! We love Canada, but we are stuck in the middle and if war breaks out, we could be killed for what we don't even believe in. He thinks presidents do not have to abide by the law, and he can rreign as he wishes. Our only hope is that the people and congress stops him! He has already ruined our reputation. I called him Hitler because Hitler had followers also with mind control or whatever the government is using to control them! Their common sense is gone. There is no way Trump could get elected by people with good judgment with all the things he said during his campaign. He insulted women, blacks, Jews, immigrans and veterans. Virtually anyone that he thinks isn't as wonderful as he thinks he is. I even saw a picture of him with a crown! I will not be ruled. We are losing our rights, and he appointed Elon Musk to audit the government so he has access to everyone's personal information! I did NOT vote for that. They don't care what the average person wants. You should read Project 25! They even wanted to monitor women's menstrual cycles! How scary is that, and supposedly he won the election! I have a friend who read Project 25, and saw nothing wrong with it! When push comes to shove, he backs down, but the damage is done because Canada now hates the US! We need Canada and love Canada and the peaceful decades we have had with Canada! My dad said years and years ago that Canada has never caused problems! That is a huge benefit being so close to us. Trump has lost his mind, and everyone is afraid because he would have his "people" do his dirty for him and keep his own hands clean. However, he has so much blood on his hands that it boggles my mind. If he hadn't run for president, he would be in prison! That's who we voted into office, or did we? He was not going to lose, and we all know with his money and power, he couldn't lose! I am so sick of all the chaos that started on day one. If was the same way in his previous term. Everyday he bitched about something and how bad he's treated. Now he wants revenge and doesn't care about Ukraine and in his mind, the Panama Canal is now the American Canal. We have no legal right to it, and it is not run by China! He's nuts, but tomorrow it will be a whole different story! You can tell how upset I am, and I'm sure people are turning over in their graves. I'm 72 with no children so I don't fear anything he can do to me. People with children should consider moving...seriously! I could write page after page, but it's all out their on the Meidas Touch on their website and YouTube. Trump's neice Mary Trump has a podcast against her uncle. That's pretty bad! We need to band together and fight if need be. I can't see everything I'd like to say, but you can guess what I'm thinking. Congress better see the light and do something. He blames everything bad on everyone else and everything good is because of what has done. It's all lies! I've been praying for the world. It is not a US problem, but a worldwide one. People in power don't care about us poor people. Look at other countries with dicators. They were moving here, but they probably won't now. Immigration problem solved! Great tactic, Trump! Make the US so horrible no immigrants will move here! What an ass!!!

My latest wrong answer was an opinion written answer. Evidently, my written opinion to a question was "not correct" as quoted by the rejection note.

I am happy with my life but I miss my husband so much I just want to be with him in the afterlife, though it is hard as I don t want to do any harm to myself or give grievance to my kids but I cannot wait till I die to be with him again ..how many other widows feel this way, I am grieving my hubby so much and I don t know if this is normal or not, I cannot wait until I can be with him again ??

I miss mine terribly, but I often feel he is still here watching over me. Especially when something goes wrong and somehow I find the tool or whatever to make it right again. He knows what is still in his garage and seems to guide me there.

Have you ever experienced being scammed? Back in 2019, when my dear mom was still here, we got scammed out of a great deal of funds by some fraudsters claiming to be employees of our bank. We were told that someone had fraudulently used my credit card to send money by Western Union; & that our local branch had staff members who were running a scamming ring. To summarize a lengthy story, although we definitely did NOT give out any account numbers; PINS; or...

Once upon a time I got scammed by my ex-wife. It led to a brutal courtroom fight which lasted for months. Justice prevailed (in the end), and I got alimony (and still get alimony) from my ex-wife! However, an ironical thing happened along the way - we became each other best friend, after the divorce - it took decades for it to happen. Ony in America (LOL)!

I just found a $250 gift card for a high-end kitchenware store tucked into the back of my junk drawer. The problem? It expires at midnight tomorrow, and the only physical store that accepts it is a 40-minute drive away (without traffic). I don't technically need anything from there right now, but it's basically free money. If I don't go, I'm essentially throwing away $250.

This is a very popular Indonesian and Malaysian meal. It can easily be adjusted to become a vegetarian dish. Many different versions are available throughout the two countries. I prefer the vegetables to still be slightly crisp. Feel free to add or subtract various ingredients. This is very popular with the locals in the village when the waves are too big for the fishing boats to go out. In good weather, the fishermen go out about 200 kilometres almost reaching...

I remember this dish. But that version had no chicken or meatballs. It had mushrooms, baby corn, cabbage, carrots and fish cakes. Some people also add prawns.

I am a diabetic. Had gout so bad I was in bed for 2 days/screaming. Thank god I have a good friend... It went to ambulance stage. Ambulance came. And they made me wait 11 hours in emergency. Put a medical sock on. Called a taxi to take me home. It was 1:00 at that time. The taxi driver had to help me get into my place. Gave him a $10 tip. Should have been more. Has anyone got stories this? Or I am the only one?

I have no experience with Emergency Department, but they are understaffed and underpaid. The fault lies with the government and has for years; it took Covid to bring it to everyone's attention. They do the best with what's available. Sorry for your experience but it happens every day.

Ok, 2 working parents would get approx. 2 to 3 weeks annual per year of leave, so between them, they could have available 6 weeks. This needs to cover the following leave: Sick leave because child is ill. School holidays - currently if you count all the pupil free days, public holidays etc would be 10-12 weeks give or take a day. Vacation care costing is ridiculously high and spots few and far between. Not to mention with the cost of living going up,...

How do people deal with petty people? I usually laugh at them and then brush them off but someone on one of the games on here is getting really nasty about things. I blocked a player on a game recently. Why? Because all they wanted to do was post their (mostly) snide comments about other players which, because they are so talkative, it was putting me off the game and I couldn't focus. They seemed to find out that I had blocked them as soon as I did it so they had a rant about...

we eat all our leftovers now. anything left in the pot like a few spoons of uneaten carrots goes in a tupperware container in the freezer, just on top of the other stuff that has already been layered in over the weeks. then when full we make a soup stock and dump the container of veggies, pasta bits etc. that we have saved up. that gives us 2 days of soup lunches, just add bread. feels like a free meal or two, stuff that in previous years I didnt pay much attention to those little bits of veggies or 20 pasta noodles left in the cooking pot, they just went in the garbage.

Do you watch sports on TV that you played earlier in life? If you do, does watching remind you of the good plays you made, the camaraderie that you had, and the sense of accomplishment that you experienced when you won? Would you consider watching live events or even coaching now? I miss playing, and I would love to hear from others who played. The game was all about winning and having fun, but it was also learning how to lose gracefully.

I played baseball at a high level right up unti I was 21. I was scouted by the Los Angeles Dodgers at age 17...they had the rights to me for 5 years. I injured my knee at 19 and got over sports immediately. The irony is I can HARDLY watch baseball on TV, it is far better live.

To make soft Cinnamon Rolls, prepare a dough with flour, warm milk, yeast, sugar, butter, and an egg. Let it rise until doubled. Roll out the dough, spread with butter, then sprinkle a mixture of brown sugar and cinnamon. Roll it up, cut into pieces, and place in a greased baking pan. Let them rise again, then bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 25 minutes until golden. While still warm, pour over a simple glaze made with milk and icing sugar.

Does anyone wear matching clothes anymore? If so what colours? With who? For what occasion? Where? And if you don't wear matching clothes are you thinking about it now?
Nite-Owl
Never mind the matching - I think it's disgusting that no one cares how they look anymore. At least in the U.S. People wear pajamas and house shoes in public, clothes that should be in the trash and unwashed hair. No one seems to take pride in the way they look anymore. I know prices in retail stores are high, but there are always thrift stores where you can find nice things for very reasonable prices.

Mini Pancakes Mix: Whisk 1/3 cup flour, 1 ½ tsp sugar, 1 ¼ tsp baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Wet: Stir in 1/4 cup milk, 1 egg yolk, 1 tbsp oil/butter, and 1/2 tsp vanilla. Cook: Heat a greased pan on medium. Pour 2 tbsp of batter per pancake. Flip when bubbles form and edges look dry (about 2-3 minutes). Boil egg on side Add your favorite fruits and nuts on side

I graduated from Lanier High School for boys in Macon, Ga. This was Sidney Lanier's home. My 8th and 9th grade teacher was Oiuda Poe, a self-proclaimed direct descendant of Sidney. She taught the English language well, and she taught us to listen to the symmetry in the language. Some say they don't care for poetry, but they love their music. Just think about what poetry means to you in your everyday life. Think about what would music be like without...

I have always enjoyed poetry and in Australia we have some beauties. The Man From Snowy River is a classic but there are others I'm fond of. Two poems I don't like are number 1, The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner, and number 2, The Kon-Tinki Expedition. I was enthralled with Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by T.S. Elliot so got quite a thrill when I found they had all been put to the music of Cats the musical. Indeed, life would be dull without poems.

I have always been fascinated by how different our internal clocks can be! I personally find that my best energy hits much later in the evening, while I know others who are up and productive at the crack of dawn. I m curious to hear from the community: Do you find it easy to jump out of bed early, or do you do your best work when the rest of the world is asleep? Also, if you ve ever tried to change your natural rhythm (like a night owl trying to become an early bird), did it...

I agree with Liane and so does our local TV news troubleshooter reporter. In this part of upstate PA near Hershey, several widows and widowers have been scammed out of their life savings by folks who wanted to 'date' them but needed money very badly. Now we are being warned if we use online dating services (I never did. I never even dated- ever and I am 76 now and none the worse for it. I have a few close friends and many online friends and I have Plummy, my 9 years young pet kitty cat so I am really NOT all alone even if I am a shut-in and nobody ever bothers to visit me here. So do be careful with your money and never ever buy prepaid store cards and use them to send out funds because they are not traceable. Happy Eastertide.

How is everyone coping with the escalating cost of petrol/diesel in your country now due to the blockage of fuel tankers from the Strait of Hormuz. I live in New Zealand and 91 has gone up to $3.69 per litre. It was well under $3 per litre in February this year. Also it is scary to think that we might run out of diesel in 3 weeks time.

I filled up on the day the Iran war broke out and don't drive much but the price of 91 in South Australia is around $2.40 I think and the next fill up will be with clenched teeth! You fuel in NZ is very expensive KittyK, in February ours was around $1.59.

This is a simple dish to put together. It is very popular in our cooking school. The grinding with a mortar and pestle can be a bit hard, but you can throw the ingredients into a mixer. It does however lack a bit of flavour that way. The presentation is a bit rough, but I actually used the mix to make lemongrass chicken pies. They are always in demand in our bar. *1 kg diced chicken. *3 sticks lemongrass (bruised). *Bay leaf & lime leaf. *400 ml coconut milk. *3 tbs...

You're dating someone and on your second date you go to a restaurant for lunch. As you're looking over the menu, your date says to you, I'm ordering the special because it's the healthy choice and the price is not too bad, you should order it too. You look at the special, but it's not what you like to eat. Would you order it to please them or order what you want since you're paying for your own meal?
Trusty Sue
I would pick up my bag and walk out of the restaurant without looking back or saying a thing. When I got home I would block his phone number.
