The highest court in sports sanctioned Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva for doping violations at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. The ruling has set the stage for US skaters, who finished second behind Valieva and her teammates in the team competition, to receive gold medals. The removal of Valieva's points resulted in the United States moving to gold, Japan moving to silver, and Russia dropping to bronze. Despite Russia's appeals, the CAS dismissed them, upholding the ISU's decision to give the bronze medal to the Russian team, who still had a high enough point total to medal after Valieva's points were removed. Canada, which initially finished fourth, appealed their exclusion from the medal positions but their appeal was also denied by the CAS. I think, given this was a 'team' event and medal ... that the Russian team should have been eliminated from that event completely. What do you think? |
