Is the Self Just a Story We Tell Ourselves?
Jisha 167362019-Jun-25
We often talk about finding ourselves, being true to ourselves, or losing ourselves in something greater. But what if the "self" isn t something we discover or protect what if it s something we invent?
Some neuroscientists and philosophers suggest that the idea of a stable, unified self is a useful illusion a narrative our brain constructs to make sense of our thoughts, emotions, and memories. From childhood, we weave experiences into a story, and that story becomes our identity. But if the story changes, or if memory fails, what happens to the self?
Is the "you" of ten years ago the same person as "you" today or are you just the current storyteller wearing a new mask?
