My family doesn't believe in giving physical gifts. Have ever I still have a lot of very fond memories of my step-grandmother (I do not have any fond memories of my birth mom, biological father, stepfather, stepmom, stepsiblings, siblings, DNA relatives or non-DNA relatives except one) - when I think of my step-grandmother - she STILL brings a smile to my face and an ache in my heart - EVEN in the year 2024 - she was the only person in-my-so-called-family - HAHA - who ever care about me when I was a kid! Beauty pageants have been around for many years especially in the USA and mothers are really competitive to the detriment of their children. I have to agree with Christina, competition with kids, their birthday parties, etc. is all to do with the parent/s whereas children generally just want to have fun with their friends. Last week at 8pm, driving home from Wellington airport, it was raining and windy, just came out of the Terrace tunnel, saw a car on the road shoulder with a man bending over the engine trying to get it going {middle couple with grandson}.His wife and a child were in the car, I pulled out infront of them, I could not start their car. so I tow them all the way to Plimerton. They were so happy, the man say, he will have his son look at it in the morning.They thank me so many times I left, I drove through the red light , I didi not see a cop car, he pulled me over. Just as he was about to write me a ticket his private phone rung. He went back to the patrol car. He came back and ask me where i just came from. I explained.what i did , I mention a certain address. and he say thank you for helping them. so please don't drive through a red light again. I would have faced a huge fine

Well I really hope not but a long time ago my parents would eat Chinese at a shop some where in Brisbane any way the shop was caught enticing the local street cats and they served them up as chicken. Yuk so my parents do believe they have eaten cat, not by choice of course. The shop was closed down obviously. A woman I knew was really upset by some people that lived near her as they were trying to catch ducks in the local park. Setting traps for them and yes using them as food. I am pleased we don't have wet markets here in Australia but I am sure if you knew where to look there could be a black market and you could get what ever you wanted at a cost. We use and abuse animals for a lot of things and food is only a part of the whole situation unfortunately. I do eat meat don't get me wrong but I do feel for the animals especially if we treat them so badly. Big problem we have now is eggs, a dozen is now going to cost us $15 because we aren't allowing caged hens. All hens have to be free ranged or barn laying. I was a little put off as I will refuse to pay that much for eggs. An alternative to using an egg/eggs in a cake is 1. Apple Sauce 2. Banana and 3. 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of vinegar (per egg) 4. plain or vanilla yoghurt. Maybe when they realise some people will refuse paying that price the price will drop but only time will tell. We do have alternative solutions for this problem and we are not reliant to them for our needs. We will adapt and find other ways. I like eggs but I will slowly learn to live without them.

Yes. I knew a lady that I worked with. She and her husband bickered every day in a house they shared. They ended up divorcing after 35 years of marriage. They both live down the hall from each other in an apartment block and now are getting along amazingly well. She calls her ex-husband her new best friend. Life can change for the better!

Best present, although I didn't know it then, was when our entire family were together. We have lost quite a few of these lovely people and I wish I could have appreciated it at the time and indeed have them back again. Merry Christmas everyone.

I have been working from home and loving it. Will continue to do this mostly when things get back to 'normal'. I actually like my own company and apart from buying food and essentials have not been too concerned about having to stay home. Definitely don't miss the 2 + hours of time on the train that was pre covid.

Isn't it interesting that some narrow minded people think that solving the unemployed youth issue is as easy as throwing these kids into the armed forces. Endemic societal issues cannot simply be solved by handing a kid a gun. The root cause needs to be addressed. That cause starts in the home the school the social group and the online barrage of garbage children face every day from the likes of online forums such as face book. Do not use the armed forces who do a fantastic job of protecting our democratic freedoms as the channel to fix issues that need to be addressed by all. The ADF does a great job encouraging people from all walks of life to serve and protect. And to Bob F...below you say use diplomacy? Tell that to Putin and his mates in Iran North Korea and China. The best part of my day is after I have fed my cats, made the bed, had breakfast, done the dishes, swept the floor, dusted, done a couple of loads of washing and hung it out, ironed, either walked or used the treadmill, had lunch and cleaned up, pulled a few weeds, gone shopping if I need anything, fed the cats, prepared dinner, checked my emails, done the dishes, checked the bills, had supper then lights out. Then I may be able to go to bed without any cats, in which case I am able to sleep in any position I want. Tomorrow is another day.

It's all about selfishness. It's all about me, me, me and not us. I have watched as people care far more about themselves now and their feelings. How else do you explain so many relationship breakdowns? People have no respect for one another, or integrity, honesty, manners or loyalty. I met my husband when I was 16 and at 18 needed my parents permission to marry him. When we tell people we have been married for almost 55 years instead of congratulating us people make jokes such as you don't get that long for murder. Shouldn't a marriage that has lasted that long be valued or even admired instead of denigration?

I STILL feel, while there are people in our community who have fought for our respective countries and who would have given their lives for it, that the RESPECT dang well better be there!. I ALWAYS refer to someone over the age of 40, I'm 57, with "Sir or Mam". I use the age of 40 as a baseline as all of my children are under this age. I truly believe that it is their, our elders, DUE to be treated with a title showing that we respect their age as an identifier of a history and life experience that, we hope, we shall not endure! However, if they state, as the gentleman I spoke with yesterday did in giving his name and permission for me to use it, THEN and ONLY then, will we be on a more familiar first name basis. Years ago when I was doing a stint in the Geriatrics Department of a hospitaI I had called an older lady "Dear" and was quickly admonished for it. I was told that I was NEVER to call someone that due to it being disrespectful and to refer to them as Mr or Mrs Smith or whatever their name on the wall behind them indicated and if there wasn't a visible name then Sir or Mam would do. I UNDERSTAND that times change but some things need preserving, at least for a few more decades! I don't hold out hope though for the general public what with "pregnant mother" being relegated to the annals of history and "birthing parent" being used instead. Or, even worse as I see it, "breast feeding mother" now known as "chest feeding parent". The word "mother" is forbidden in places and I don't just mean in the movie "A Brave New World"! The use of language identifies us as individuals and changing this, as is intentionally occurring now through the Big Tech monopolies, strip's us of that identifier. I want to be known as a mother and grandmother. I BREASTFED my SONS and my DAUGHTERS. Taking this away without my consent is violating my unique identity. Oh, so many memories. I did not realise how poor we were when very small. Mum used to give us a weet bix spread with the drippings and vegemite and we loved it. When older, favourite dessert was rice pudding and roast lamb and all the trimmings every Sunday. Snacks which I still make today are fritters, especially the potato ones now called german potato cakes or something, and potato and onion cooked up with herbs and spices. Loved spaghetti bolognaise - actually, the only thing I turned my nose up at was liver, tripe and sweetmeats in general. All of us kids ate whatever was put on the table in front of us and my kids were the same. Aww, we kids back then were so easy for our Mum's to look after - most of the time! Lol.

I actually live in BC Canada. I find it really hard to believe The Keg would allow this. The restaurant has to have a food safe certificate to operate. A dog would be going against the food safety guidelines. Only service dogs are allowed in restaurants, so curious how this happened. I think this was a one time situation? But yeah, I wouldn't want to dine with a dog in a restaurant that I'm eating at.

I've been a gardener all my life, and currently have a small home garden and oversee a community garden at my church, where we have 68 plots of 100 sq. ft. each. There we have raised produce for local hunger relief - with this being our 25th year!

I was flying from AL to Sydney when I was in an incident. The guy next to me started jiggling. At first I though he was listening to music, then realised he was sick. I called the stewardess and told her. The next thing was the classic announcement "is there a doctor on the plane". They found one, and he and the stewardess started trying to help the guy. The stewardess turned to me and said "the doctor needs more space, and the only spare seat is in first class, would you mind moving?" So in the spirit of helping out I made the sacrifice and moved to first class for the rest of the trip.

A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest. The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room. He returned a few minutes later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head. The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room. A few minutes later he returned with a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room. The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck." The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman.. The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill. "$150!" she cried, "$150 just to tell me my duck is dead!" The vet shrugged, "I'm sorry. If you had just taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it's now $150."

Waiting on a miracle? I see them around me every day! I will just mention one because I have the first beautiful flower on a new Christmas Cactus plant. I notice the intricate and perfect details in flowers. No matter where they're from in the world flowers are perfectly made with identically sized petals and intricately dotted or .... I can't even describe them. They're just SO miraculously detailed. And scented beautifully as a bonus:)

When you trust someone/thing for information you think is important you need to be able to check, I personally think they are rorters...and make a lot of money without ever proving to anyone what they say is factual. That is called a broad head arrow or "Bear" head. Very expensive and very lethal. Judging from the size it comes from a crossbow which is totally illegal where I come from. I have archery equipment. I don't hunt but I do go out bush to practice for the sport of it. If you miss a target with the types of powerful bows that are on the market today, the arrow could end up anywhere.

Some things I would like to have changed but on the whole, I am content with my life. My husband & I have been married 65 years, have 2 daughters, one is happily married for 35 years, produced 3 wonderful sons & we have 1 great grandson & 2 great granddaughters, so to achieve & to live & see 4 steps of the family, is terrific these days & I am proud of each & every one

We don't eat at a dinner table . Unless it's out at family 's for an event . My son was one of the worst fussiest non eaters as a child so to avoid all the stresses and the direct eye contact of sitting across from eachother ... we ended up with the t.v on for distraction and he had his little stool pulled up to the edge of the coffee table while I relaxed on the couch. Scandalous yes I know ,but it was the only way mealtimes wouldn't end up with a plate of food thrown at the wall in frustration. :/

I read of a couple who spent the whole year cruising from one boat to another, according to where the boat was cruising too. Now that sounds lovely, meals all cooked & prepare for you. I would do a cruise that would take in Samoa (not the AMERICAN side) as it is where my husband & I renewed our Wedding Vows & we had a marvelous time. We started off at Fiji for a week then we went to Samoa. I even had a Puletasi (traditional wedding dress) made for me who was the lady working in the souvenir shop. She also happened to be a seamstress in her "spare" time. It was lovely & my husband wore the traditional dress code for a man. We still have them, can't say that they still fit but we still have the photo's & memories of that wonderful holiday. We did that trip back in about 1995 & next month we celebrate our 65th year of being married.

Sorry, I can't help you. I had a stepchild. I met him when he was 10 years old. He loved me, and he was a wonderful child. When he was 19, his dad moved me to WA state and abandoned me here. we pay a tax through the petrol pump, in the way of a surcharge. Not to mention the charge for using the toll ways - that to me is highway robbery...owned by private companies, paid for by the users over many many years, and still they want more. The toll should be ceased, as I bet the revenue raised does not go back into maintenance of roads.

I live by "Treat others how I wish to be treated." There are definitely more important things in life as money, or career success. If I could effect just one person's life for the better in any way, and impact them enough that they strive to do the same for someone else, then i think I could feel content with my life. For me the true highlights of life are found in the small things, the things most people don't even acknowledge exist or have no appreciation for at all. To be more specific, for me, Music has brought the greatest aspects in my life, as a drummer I had a really good teacher that enabled me to be able to teach others in the same or similar ways. I found value in the pets ive had growing up, in particular a Burmese cat, Oscar, when I was age 14, he picked me as his favourite out of my whole family and made me a cat person, I now have my own cat named Oscar and he means the world to me. I thrive on helping others and have always lived to learn lessons each and every day so that all the rare lessons ive learned can be taught or passed on to someone else.

AI will have access to all current medical knowledge...ALL the time....robots are already doing better surgery in some cases....they won't get old or be arrogant..or think they are God......they will make far less terrible mistakes...and spot things in scans that humans cannot even see....I say bring it on...I don't want some doctor misdiagnosing me....not knowing what is currently available...or some surgeon making a mess of my operation...Humans are going to massively benefit....

I live in a unit block and what I hate is tenants slamming their doors. They dont need to. I even said something to a tenant and he only slams it more.

Everyone knows that I am a music maniac, but there is an amazing therapy to bring back memories called Synocheer . . It is not well known. ..The process is... try to get as close to the date , month,year of your required memory. ..Then find songs/music from all styles, genres, current at that time. ..select some that you remember and some that you would not have listened to back then. So, it should be country,jazz,pop,rock, soul,classical and so on. ..You need at least 50 songs/music in that time space. ..Randomise them, select a time in the day when you will not be interrupted. .. Headphones are good too. ..and listen to all of them. You will be amazed at the outcome. .. It happens during, after and even weeks after. .. .....And, an added bonus, you can actually feel a euphoric high for the rest of the day.

No. I won't even use a human cemetery so why would I use one for pets? Cemeteries are a waste of space that could be better utilised for the living (humans, animals and trees and plants etc).

I don't know and I don't care 'if' there is a possibility life exist on other planets in a vast universe. We (humans) have enough ongoing environmental issues on this planet (over-population, lack of fresh water, climate-change, etc.) - that life might cease to exist on this PLANET - other words spending money on space exploration is a COMPLETE WASTE OF TAXPAYERS' MONEY. Furthermore, if E.T. decides to phone home - MAKE SURE - it is a COLLECT CALL. FYI: I think planet is spelt planet instead of plant (but English is not my first language - LOL)!

My father in law passed, followed by my partner a few months later. I inherited my partner's share of his fathers' estate as well as my partner's insurance. Did it change me? Yes, I've become a recluse, I was sick of people asking me for money. I purchased a cheap half an acre in the wop wops (remote) which I'm currently building on myself so future generations can make use of it. My sons' have received a decent sum each, I have helped out family and friends but I stopped helping people out months ago. I have not bought a new car, gone on holiday, or been on a shopping spree with my money.

I think happiness is a lifelong journey, you will always have great moments to look back on but I never knew until I got to this period in my life what it truly means to be happy, to see my grandkids smiling/laughing and discovering new and different things highlights my life every day, being a part of that is truly a gift

If you can take the time, try the Pearl Farm on Samal Island in Mindanao, Philippines. It is absolute heaven! Food is good, fresh, and very tasty.

I'm Blessed because my bank doesn't charge for ATM withdrawals, or their checking or savings accounts ($50 saving minimum), so I never have any fees to pay! They even give nice gifts on our birthdays if we come into the bank. I've received an umbrella (with their name on it, of course), coffee mugs, and others. I love my bank, and will never change! ;-D

This seems like a horrible dilemma, having been an aged care nurse and community co ordinator in NZ, their are health services available, ie age concern, district health services, be pro active yourself or reach out for support through your GP, all the best. You don\u2019t mention family!
