When my children were pre-teens my husband was very often away, often for months at a time with the RAN so I ruled my home with an iron rod. If I hadn't my life would have been hell. They were children and had rules and rarely needed to be punished. There was no acting up or swearing, they were allowed out to play but had a time that they had to be home. I really didn't ever have a problem with any of them and they were church goers. They are all married now with children of their own, they were never in any trouble, didn't do drugs and were not drinkers. They also stayed at home until they married which was late in their 20"s. My mother always said I had turned my sons into sooks but their wives tell me a did a brilliant job with them. Because dad was usually not here my boys were quite close to me and were always very helpful to their mum. One rings 2 or 3 times a week for a chat.

Just who is responsible for this big rise in Inflation? The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) must think the blame rests on those on middle, low and fixed incomes for it is they whom the RBA is punishing. Yes, the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that people are spending more for the Retail Figures have gone up. What the RBA does not seem to understand is that Retailers have been Increasing Prices - with, on average, the Supermarkets recording a 21.7% INCREASE in their Prices! So, of course, the Public are spending more BUT are they actually Buying More or is it simply that they are buying the same amount, or less, but paying 21.7% more for it? The Big4 Banking Cartel and, to a lesser degree the smaller Banks, Credit Unions etc. have steadfastly refused to pass on Interest Rate Increases to Depositors but have wasted no time in Increasing Interest Rates against those who have borrowed money from them! At the same time when the RBA Reduces Interest Rates, the BIg4 Cartel - all of whom make well in excess of $AU6 billion, post Tax, profits - immediately move to Reduce Interest rates to Depositors but drag their heels for Months in reducing the Interest rate they charge Borrowers. The Federal Government should pass Legislation making it mandatory that every Increase/Decrease in Interest Rates is passed on In Full to both Depositors and Borrowers and that they do it within 7 days of moves by the RBA. They entire Financial System is now based on one thing: GREED and Greed leads to Corruption.

Hi Mary, I have a good male mate, I spend nights over there, he comes over here occasionally (he lives in the wop wops). 90% of my mates are male (less hassle lol). I don't hide my phone, say where I'm going and who with, etc. There needs to be proof, acting on suspicion can break a relationship with no substance to back it. Isn't the problem today that people want their McMansion, a huge house with 6 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, 3 car - they must, of course, be BMWs, Mercedes 4WDs - Garages, the obligatory Pool, Top-of-the-range BBQ, A kitchen with the latest hi-tech, most expensive equipment, a den, an office, a rumpus room, a formal lounge or two. Our parents started Small and gradually over the years moved into, if not bigger, certainly better houses. Today's younger people want, no they Need, Instant Gratification, they think they are Entitled to it - despite not having the money to pay for it. As we have seen in Australia, and reportedly overseas as well, there was a huge spike in the price of houses in recent years, Interest Rates were low, and Yes, Australia's Reserve Bank told us that they would remain low until at least 2024 which was wrong but it was inevitable they would start to go up sometime. Young people kept on borrowing huge amounts of money without giving a thought to the future. They wanted and "Must Have" everything. Interest Rates started to rise and have kept rising. House Prices are dropping, wages are remaining stagnant and now people are in trouble. Their houses are now worth less than what they owe the banks, eventually people won't be able to keep up the payments, the banks will foreclose and then what? People will start demanding that "The Government does something". I make no apology for writing this, but people have brought this on themselves. Greed and Self-Gratification are now the God Kings.

As its 19 years to the day since my own dear mother died from breast cancer at the young age of 62, I would agree that existing products such as the one referred to SHOULD be made available. My sister and I were the closest of friends but she passed a couple of years ago. I have a couple of neighbours I am friendly with and can ask for help within reason but not the same closeness. I agree, if you are not in a social circle it is hard to make friends. I used to be hoarder till I recognize I had a "problem (HAHA)". I started seeing a pysychologist to deal with my "problem" (31 years ago) - and I was able to stop beginning a hoarder for the last 29 years of my life! Yes, I am OLD! However, the urge to hoard stuff still lurks in me - I learned with the help of professional (pyschologist) to keep hoarding at bay for the rest of my life! NO! You can not literally (with your own stuff) hold onto your PAST forever - regardlessly how hard you try! Time moves on - you have to learn to adapt and move on - or you will trap yourself in the past (with your own stuff).

Yes I personally don't like the look either, but fashion is what it is. I park as far away from the shops as possible. Most cars that have trouble getting into a shopping centre carpark are four wheel drives. I think shopping centre carparks should have a separate area for these big cars to park in. They don't only cause trouble when they are parking but make it impossible for a small car to see around them when trying to get out of a car park.

This has to be a joke. Children are just that, children, and to my mind children should be seen and not heard. Why would they have a say? They don't earn a living, they go to school to learn. It seems to me that parents do not want the responsibility of rearing children and want children to rear themselves. How can a child possibly have the maturity, experience and knowledge to even be given consideration in making life changing decisions. Children deserve a childhood free from such things, no worry or responsibility, that will come soon enough. If an adult feels the need to check with a child for permission to lead his or her life then perhaps they should remain childless. Stop frightening them with climate change, possible war, sustainability and all that other rubbish. Why scare them with things that might never happen. I remember the Cuban missile crisis and asked my father "will there be a war", he told me I was not to worry about it or be concerned but to let adults sort it out. Indeed they did and my father was right, as a child I had no need to worry. Do not put grown up heads on little shoulders. Let them be children.

Crime will always be around. (unfortunately) The legal system is very broken. One person can commit a crime and get probation. The next guy does the very same thing, and he will get 2 years. Crimminals really are not afraid of the justice system.

My grandmother had 2 small children during WW2 and they fled Malaya and ended up in Western Australia, she lost a baby on the journey. My grandpa ended up a prisoner for years. Any way my grandma was one of the first in Australia to put strawberries into vanilla ice cream. She made quite a bit of money for her self and her 2 children. They waited until grandpa could come back and then went back to the UK. My parents settled back here once they were married. I am proud to say I am in charge of our finances, I pay all the bills and I know where every cent has gone or where it needs to be. I do believe some women aren't allowed to have their own money in some marriages. Me kind of included the first time around. Not the case this time. It certainly makes a change. I still have my own bank account and I transfer what I want when I want.

Getting to sleep is very much like the type of dreams you have when you fall asleep. The length of time it takes to get to sleep depends entirely on things like medical conditions, the amount of stress you were under that day, problems in your life, noise around you, and how active your mind is when you go to bed. The best way to get a good night's sleep is to try to clear your mind of all worries before going to bed or failing that, to listen to some relaxing music in bed. NO eating for at least one hour before going to bed, NO computer use for at least one hour before going to bed, leave your mobile ( cell ) phone in another room, NOT worry about things you have to do the next day instead write a list of those things before going to bed. Having said all of that, I am the type of person who cares about others and worry a lot about things which are going on in the world and it takes me between one and four hours to get to sleep ( Living on a highway with traffic all day / night does not help either ). As a result of this, I average 3 to 4 hours of sleep at night, then I get up and do surveys, then do whatever else I need to do that day then have 2 to 4 hours sleep during the day. Counting sheep does not always work for some people because if you go to bed hungry then while you count the sheep they might start turning into lamb chops LOL

I sometimes take old towels, blankets and such to the animal shelter near me. I cannot understand cruelty to any living thing. To see animals being hurt in any way sickens me. .

Europe has a good infrastructure and not so long distances.Australia is completely different and I dont think electric cars are suitable at the moment.There is not even the necessary infrastructure and also the grid is already now on its limits.I will not buy an electric vehicle anytime soon

One, not every family can afford (for one parent to stay at home - the harsh realties of life). Two, not every child needs supervision (I know a lot of latch-key children who went on to become happy, well-rounded, and successful adults). Three, not every family has a support system (grand parents and/or extended family) to help raise a child. Four, this is not an issue where one solution works for every family (PERIOD). Five, MAYBE we new tougher standards for people to become a parent (obvious - what we have now - is not working). I live in a rural area and absolutely love it. Rail - hmmm - what rail??? - We used to have one in Cowra, NSW, but the government decided to close it because it was not making enough money. Same thing happened with the airport. Now the only way people can get here is by train to Bathurst and bus the rest of the way, or you can drive the four hour drive. With due respect to Council, they need to try and get our train lines open again.

It's sad that this question implies that dieting is normal - please love yourselves and don't fall into the trap of thinking that you need to be any kind of preferred 'normal' whether that be big, small or any combination of body shapes. When you die the only thing that matters is who you were which shouldn't be defined by appearance. Just aim for the kind of healthy that allows you the freedom to do the tasks you need to, have enough energy to get the job done and enough love and mental peace for those who mean the most.

Unfortunately, there's sports parents who take it way too seriously, so they resort to heckling the officials (who quite often are not even adults), the opposing team, other parents, and things sometimes get physical. I like the older cars with manual transmissions and wind down windows which are plus for safety. If you break down you can push the car and even push start it. If you go into water you can wind the windows down and get out not so in electric cars etc. There is so much going on in the new cars that it is distracting the drivers.

I love most seafood but do not like oysters. The appearance of them and the texture is revolting. Yet many people seem to think they're marvellous. I also think kangaroo is disgusting too. Plenty fellow Aussies seem to think it's marvellous, but to me it smells and tastes like it's off.

In general I have found most In Laws are what you make them. I have seen MIL's that have been very pushy ..... but you just have to set boundries. If your In Laws are doing something you are not happy with - be honest AND TELL THEM (politely). Something like "I appreciate what you are saying ... but these are my kids - my rules". If a MIL is to cut your child's hair without FIRST checking with you - I can assure you she would NOT DO IT TWICE in my house. She would get very cool treatment from me. I do agree that it is often a MIL who is not happy about who her son has chosen..... a very stupid woman I say.

My whole family were fans of the "Vera" series. I've seen some of them again recently and found them much more "real" than any of the new cop series. Seems just like what has happened to the ABC. Day 3 is the worst day after birth for the baby blues to set in and milk production to come in properly ,then complications can arise ... that is all just after a natural childbirth!

I often have a quiche or peanut butter sandwich for lunch, and meat and vegies for dinner, (about 3 x a week) I recently read the Whole meal Bread with Smooth peanut butter, No sugar/salt, actually helps your weight and digestion when eaten before bed. So that's my new favorite bedtime snack. It seems to help. Ive been dieting for 6 months. I lost 25 kgs but am a bit stuck for loosing the last 20-15 kgs. In the last month, Ive gone back up 1 kg...grrr... AnY tips? Im trying to Eat Less and Move More.

I've done it. And if you truly love people and want to help someone who isn't old enough to speak up for themselves, I recommend you do it as well. I grew up in a home where my parents nearly always had 1-3 foster children sharing our lives. We learned as children that fosters come and go, but we were able to adopt 2 of the boys. They are my brothers through and through. The girls that I fostered were being abused, both 16 years old. One was being beaten regularly by her mother and stabbed once, the other was being raped by her mother's live-in boyfriend. The time with them was only a few months each but it was enough to let them know there are good people in the world and both changed into good people themselves. One has a lovely family and the other is a veterinary technician. Both are happy:) I very highly recommend fostering if you honestly feel your heart wanting to help. You don't get much financially, but you get loads in return emotionally. As much as you know they will most likely be leaving your home at some point, each and every one of them stay in your heart forever. You love with all purity of intentions and build them up and show them good in their world. You will make a positive difference for each child.

The problem is you americans are under the delusion that you think your country is the greatest thing on this planet when in fact most of the world generally dislikes your country and what it stands for and finds most of you very irritating and quite honestly I couldnt give a rats arse if your country dissolves into anarchy

I'm 57. Both my parents worked. Neither had CEO wages. I went to pre school as soon as I was old enough. My grandparents didn't babysit because they lived too far away. I'm tired of people whining about lack of money. If you get your priorities right there's no reason why you can't live and save on two incomes. It's been done for decades. Society today spends too much on new cars, TV subscriptions, mobile phones. Inet plans, tatoos and false nails! To name a few! Learn the difference between wants and needs!

Christmas time to me is all about giving not receiving. If you really want to give a gift donate a child's toys under the Kmart tree for a child in need. Or perhaps donate an amount that you can afford to charity.
