General Discussion
Alot of us Rewardian's have or have had pets in our lives- i have always been privileged to have precious creatures in my life. Just wondered if anyone felt like sharing a funny story or something memorable one of their animals- past or present- has done. I love seeing people's profile pics of their animals. We have had many funny experiences- one in particular with my husband's special fellow Bronson, who lived until he was 16. Hubby took him to visit a friend who...

I do not have any type of pets and I never had any inclination to own a pet. However, I saw a movie called "The Daring Dobermans (1975)" - clever Doberman pinschers (dogs) that were being trained to become bank robbers (once upon a time - a goal of mines) - my type of "pet" - since I have a ton of untapped latent criminal behavior in me - (aka capitalism and aka white-collar crime) - lol!

We know that plastic is bad for the environment and that is why we pay council rates for recycling, now councils introduced cash for recycled items (instead of having the bin chicken we now have bums looking for recyclable items in our bins) my question is why we have to be penalised for plastic waste if we are already paying the council rates for the so-called recycling
APB
Not sure what a chicken bin is...The "bums" will probably sort out plastic waste and make some money out of it...I hope that you never become one (but you might be)....I'm not sure about what the last bit is about entirely

Hey there fine Rewardian Geniuses..this is a dilemma for a close family member of mine who is very important to me. Their spouse has retired a year or so ago- made Redundant. They have continued to catchup and stay in touch with a Colleague since then. The Colleague is of opposite sex. They text and meet up for coffee etc. My family member feels threatened and uncomfortable- though the spouse says there's nothing going on- (of course). I'd like to hear people's...

Hi Mary, I have a good male mate, I spend nights over there, he comes over here occasionally (he lives in the wop wops). 90% of my mates are male (less hassle lol). I don't hide my phone, say where I'm going and who with, etc. There needs to be proof, acting on suspicion can break a relationship with no substance to back it. Get your family member to meet the colleague, if the spouse has nothing to hide then no worries. My partner is fine with my friendship with my mate. It's called trust (insert happy emoji smiley face).

Do you find the grammar used in public statements is atrocious these days? I cringe nearly every day at the obvious errors made in newspaper, television and radio reports. Today an instruction to a group I am associated with stated that for a performance the Band was to wear "Uniform: Marching Shirt no hats, pants, shoes etc". This was written by a lawyer who I would have thought would have a high standard of English. (I commented "Wow, that will get the...

Grammer is important in a formal setting (Example: Law office). Grammer is not important in an informal setting (Example: Rewardia.com).

Since I have all kinds of latent criminal behavior in me (HAHA) - the movie where the ending completely surprises me is "Thief" starring James Caan (1981).
OKIE K
How about a book instead, it's just the one where the ending literally made me do a double take and really really stuck with me. It's Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier - they did make a movie of it though,I think with big name actors even, but I haven't seen it. I do a lot more reading!

Hello dear fellow Rewardian grafters..anyone got some good tv shows/movies etc they are watching at moment? We haven't gone anywhere since march coz of covid version 201 having fun in the community and ruining ours. So lots of viewing going down. Anything good anyone wants to share or recommend?

I grew up listening to the radio under the sheets when my parents were asleep as a kid...Radio was cool...radio was rebelling....and then got involved in Free or Pirate radio in my 20s...DJs breaking the law...exciting stuff...but I tend to view it as a dinosaur now...why would you still be listening to the radio?..am I missing something?...I was invited to keep a Radio Diary today...they said my input is very important and can affect the way that radio stations...

That's weird! But you've made me remember listening to 'Pirate Radio' in the UK broadcast from a ship, I think Kenny Everett was the DJ. All very illegal and very exciting!

Dear Rewardians! We would like to introduce two new games that we have added today to the Play and Earn section. The first game is "Hexagon Fall," where the goal is to remove blocks to let your hexagon fall down. The second game is "Find Me," where you have to find the specific player in the crowd before time runs out. Since we have just added these games today, they haven't had time to gain a rank yet and are currently at the bottom of the list.
Jewel
I see Thomas is at the top of the leader board for Hexagon fall...just wondering how many points you accumulated? I am sitting at no.5 and for my top scoring game I only got 2 points! Hardly worth the effort.
The Find Me game seems to cheat...I click on the man multiple times before it finally registers and then only ever seem to get 2 points.

I just completed a Silver survey fro 750 points Anyone else completed a Silver survey?
Chin C
I completed the same survey too tonight. Surprised to see a new colour. Also, my survey list has been spammed by Purple surveys today. All 20 of them, none are accessible - either saying you already attempted the survey or you have been screened out. Yet the surveys won't disappear, just sit there looking pretty.

My favorite TV series is 'The Night Stalker' (1974 - 1975). My second favorite TV series is 'The Prisoner' (1967 - 1968). My third favorite TV series is 'The Avengers' starring Honor Blackman (1961 - 1964) - she left the series after the third season. The TV series 'The Avengers' ran from 1961 - 1969!
PatCat
My whole family were fans of the "Vera" series. I've seen some of them again recently and found them much more "real" than any of the new cop series. Seems just like what has happened to the ABC. They take away more and more of their funding and they can't afford good writers and actors to play them. My brother-in-law still chortles over " Fawlty Towers", and "Life of Brian" endlessly.

"Pluggers" are defined as rural, blue-collar workers who live a typical working-class lifestyle, accompanied by a mentality characteristic of the G.I. and Baby Boomer generations. If you think you are a "Plugger", what is it that you do, that makes you think you qualify?

You know Aussies and Americans have very different ways of saying things. Constantly am I confronted with a word I'd have no way of knowing in which context you are using it in......like Plugger. Lol

ohhhh so many many noises...except my own loud music haha. Hate people coughing and sneezing these day- not sure why???
Hate hearing my dog swallowing noisily in the night, or noisily licking nethers eww. Hate hate noisy boy racers revving down our street late at night and doing wheelies at the roundabouts. Though i would probably be one of them if i was young and a lad. And there's more...HATE the sounds of those Gunshot firecrackers that people let off..that freak us and our animals out.
Hubby hates the sound of his neighbour howling..yes howling. And the guy who power saws bits of wood for hours in the nearby workshop. He turned up on a sunday once to cut wood- until a certain man in tank chair zoomed over and gesticulated at him to F.O.

Dear Rewardia. It would be extremely nice if I wasn't getting screened out of nearly all surveys. I am genuinely trying to earn points and it feels like I am being blocked from doing so. It is NOT good enough and it is NOT acceptable. Please fix this
PatCat
It depends on things such as, are you working, do you have children under 18, how old are you? It never seems to be a realization that of those who do these surveys, many are at home due to health or age and therefore we can't answer the questions asked.

Ok, so today I heard the story about the 50 year old man who, because he identifies as a 15 year old girl, has been accepted with open arms into a swimming team of girls aged between 13 and 15. And...as if that's not insane enough, this 50 year old man (fully equipped with 50 year old man bits and functioning eyes) is changing in the same change room as his fellow swimmers. So I ask the question...would you be happy to let your young daughter swim and change...

Is it a child s upbringing at home, educational experiences, peer pressure or just the norm that children now lack respect for parents/ carers/ teachers/ authority figures and sadly themselves.
Christina C 466456
This is a common theme throughout history: elderly people think that youths are wayward, youths think that the elderly are grumpy, every generation seems to be worse than the last. But in the grand scheme of things youths are just being youths and act according to their influence and cultural norms.
Here's some good quotes from a few old timers:
Socrates:
"Children; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. They no longer rise when elders enter the room, they contradict their parents and tyrannize their teachers. Children are now tyrants.”
Plato:
" No man should bring children into the world who is unwilling to persevere to the end in their nature and education "
So in a nutshell, youths are just behaving as they always have. But yes child upbringing is the most important for determining a child's character later in life so if you want good kids then you need to be the best role model for them and the best educator that you can be.

Yes, this can seem like a very sombre and morbid thing to think about, let alone talk about... but we are all going to die eventually. Celebrating our lives after we have gone doesn't have to be a sad thing. Most people have some type of music played to see them off, what 3 songs would you select for your final farewell? We are going through yet another tough time in our family-extremely serious. I am curious-what do you draw strength from when things are scary, bleak, or overwhelming? I myself am a Christian, and I do believe prayer helps, but I also keep my friends and family very close. Not trying to be controversial....it's on my mind right now. It's awful when you are having it come from more than one direction. That's it. Thanks and take care of yourselves.
Gigi
Well, Nancy, whatever is hittin you hard right now, I'm very sorry you are going through such turmoil. I'm Christian too and the only place real peace and coping comes from is our Father in Heaven and His Son, Jesus Christ. Christ knows your heart and situation because He knows you intimately and there is a reason behind what you're going through. You've got to keep praying and putting one foot in front of the other and cry and let your pain out that way if it helps. I'm going through incredibly tough times too, so I can empathize with you and feeling like you have nowhere to turn and that your burdens are too heavy. My husband is young and term ill. He's dying before my eyes, my sweet loving husband who is a wonderful man, which is hard to find these days... but that's beside the point. I just can't stand the thought of losing him soon and the wrenching my heart will go through. I have a severe debilitating disability myself and it's difficult to care for him when I'm having such a hard time. But it is a privilege to care for him and have the little time I do have left. Just remember that you are not alone. There are people in your life that I know must love and care about you immensely and don't want to see you suffer. Try to put good things, (books, movies, positive talk) into your head so you are feeding your soul positivity and not negativity. Stay close to your God. He's there, I know He is. I wish there was a magical answer to going through tough times, but really there isn't. I only know what I try to do to help myself through mine. I find that focusing on other people and doing acts of service for others always helps me to feel better and focus on others who are hurting too. I will remember your name and what you've written here and include you in my daily quiet time that I take to talk to my Heavenly Father. I don't know you, except what you wrote, but I assure you, your Heavenly Father sure does. I am your sister in life. Please know you are loved. Peace and clarity be yours.

I feel a bit in disbelief over this.. was just feeling frightened about delta and suddenly things are now going crazy with omicron- how can this be happening? when will it end?
Edward S 497347
Covid-19 is here to stay just like the flu and pnumonia.
There will always be NEW variants of the Covid-19 virus, some more deadlier and some less deadly.
In Australia we are told that Omicron is less deadly, however over in the UK and USA some people have died from Omicron; but we must keep in mind there is only a small percentage of people vaccinated within those countries.
In Australia, in NSW for several weeks they were averaging around 200 to 350 new Covid cases each 24 hour period, suddenly they are getting over 2000 a day, then the day before yesterday they had over 3000 then yesterday close to 4000.
The government is saying that by the end of January 2022 we could be averaging 200,000 a day Australia-wide ( worse than the UK and USA ).
With International borders now open, all state borders now open ( except West Australia ) the Omicron is without no doubt going to spread across Australia like wild fire especially now that NSW and Victoria are not enforcing mask wearing and social distancing and NSW not enforcing use of QR codes and these states refusing to go back into lockdown to get it under control because Scott Morrison and Josh Frydenberg are more concerned about the economy.
Covid-19 is a virus that continuously changes it's DNA each time it transmits to each person and continues to grow stronger and more contagious. As it changes each time it transmits from person to person, this means that countries that have higher numbers of infections each day are creating NEW strains of the Covid-19 virus.
Every country needs to minimise the spread to minimise or end the risks of new strains being created.
IF this is not done soon then the Covid-19 virus will become so strong that disinfectent and vaccines will NOT protect us and within 20 years the Covid-19 virus will make the human race extinct.
Although the 3rd vaccine booster shot is only providing 30% protection against Omicron, we ALL need to be fully vaccinated to give us at least some protection because Governments around the world are no longer taking steps to control or contain the virus because they are now all more concerned with the economy

Yesterday's 30 point bonus for playing Drop and Merge was a rip off. I'm 71 and need a hip replacement, but even I don't have over three hours to spend trying to get an extra 30 points. At one stage I gained 1168 points ( not that far off the leader board and it gave me 2 points! This is just plain ridiculous and I have written and told them so - especially as I stuck it out until I had 31 points and they didn't credit me with the bonus today! Thanksgiving are being celebrated mostly in western country. Do we all know the real reason for celebrating 'Thanksgiving'? People may have different opinion and view abut 'thanksgiving' but, for me, I thank God for bringing me into this world, a reborn Christian and that is all I can thank and reflect on 'thanksgiving' longweekend. What are you thanking for in this 'thanksgiving' holiday?

Thanksgiving is an American tradition. Its not celebrated in any other western countries that I know of.

We have private rooms for private messaging via Google.... people's pictures can be put up via their avatars and now added to things like their recipes and discussions or polls .
These can either be personal photographs or taken from another social media source like pinterest or facebook or instagram ..all of which constitutes copying and pasting / sharing posts / uploading from one social media site to another ! We can like or comment on eachother's forum posts in the chats otherwise known as a thread ... Keeping safe online here is still very much warranted as are the rules for using other social media sites. Yes we have limitations here ,but there is live chat in the bingo room and the ability to share video clips from media sites along with putting up with a multitude of annoying advertising , people's mad misinformation and some trolls even .. yep I would most definitely call this a social media website ;)

As a lactose free person, I believe I am being overcharged for my coffee/latte as now I am being asked for an additional amount ranging from 50 cents to $1 to cover the soy or almond milk. However the cost of soy or almond milk at the supermarket is only 10 cents a litre more than normal or skim milk. My lactose free coffee/latte only requires a small amount of soy/ almond milk. So why should it be acceptable in our coffee loving society today to rip off those who are unable...

What has gone wrong with the young males of today. Another school embroiled in young men taking the faces/head photos of social media and doing an AI attachment of a nude body to them and posting so many on line. Where has their common decency gone. Lack of respect towards girls and women has become endemic in recent years. WHY......? Are parents, schools, older generations not teaching them? Are they just brats who think they are cute or funny? Have men...

We have been able to do this with photos (without AI) for over 30 years...anybody who is skilled can do this in Photoshop...so what has changed recently?....little girls now spend hours photographing themselves.. pouting and vamping it up...with their new phones and post them all over the internet...and little boys have easy access to to these..and pornography....and also now have software that makes attaching heads to bodies so easy that every moron can do this to a reasonable level....what's changed?...technology...that's all...if you don't want your head attached to a naked body stop posting it everywhere... in multiple views. different lighting and angles.. online....easy to use.....you know it can happen...just wake up and pay attention....if they made the software illegal it would stop immediately...

At a younger age, while I was still finding my feet - a glass bender. Yep, that was the job title.
Worked nights in front of a very large and very hot rotating furnace kiln. We had long poles and we reached into the flames and placed flat sheets of glass onto the molded seats, they went around inside the kiln and then rotated back into view, perfectly melted, molded and shaped. We then took them out and placed them to cool off.
It was quite complicated as there were 25 sheets of glass inside at any time. The molding seats came out with the glass and new seats had to be placed in and then new glass sheets had to be put onto them.5-man crew all working in harmony. If one man missed his task, then it would all stop.
On a good night we would shape 2000 glass molded ceiling lights.

Why do most of the advertised lengths of surveys not reflect any accuracy. I have seen a 3 minute survey being 35 minutes when opened. Or some that say 160 minutes but end up being 15 minutes.

We know and some of us think electric vehicles are actually good for the environment but what about for the economy, considering the electricity consumption when charging, and where quite substantial tax payers funds are being spent for building charging infrastructure to be installed?
Andrew C 287196
Electric vehicles are no better for the environment than normal petrol / diesel cars. In some ways electric vehicles are actually worse. Massive amounts of money is being wasted on the idea. 🙁
Added to the problems are all the gadgets and gizmos (ebikes, escooters, mobile phones, tablets, "smart" this, AI that) which all need constant recharging, plus the enormous amounts of electricity to run the servers, as well as the materials need to make all those batteries.
If you really want an enviromentally-friendly transport option, we should be using Flintstones-style vehicles ... stick your feet through the floor and run along the ground. 😉

Do you think what is marketed as Australian Atlantic Salmon is real Salmon or a fake? Real salmon needs to be able to swim up rivers into lakes etc. to spawn, then shortly after hatching they swim down-stream and out into the oceas where they feed on Natural Foods. The Australian version is farmed, they are kept in what amounts to a cage and fed prepared food which guarantees their flesh is Red or Pink.

I am fascinated by the fact that you never see salmon marketed as "Pacific salmon" You always see "Atlantic salmon" sold but Pacific salmon is better.
In general, wild-caught Pacific salmon is often considered healthier than Atlantic salmon, mainly due to its lower fat content, better fatty acid profile, and lower risk of contaminants.

I understand we need to be shown ads to help Rewardia fund its activities - but is anyone else getting sick of the ad about a new show from Britain which is being shown many times every day. Some of the scenes interested me the first couple of times I saw it, but to see it so many times each day is a real turn-off.
APB
I think we all get wildly different ads....I've never seen the one you are talking about...and you have probably never seen my boring ads either!

Should there be a limit on how many questions can be asked for qualification? I just tried a survey and qualification took about 8 minutes and about 40 questions only to be screened out. This is way too much. What are yout views on this.
Secret Squirrel
I agree. Surely your demographic, age and sex would be enough. More than that and I assume that I am being screened out because my opinions conflict with the answers THEY want, which defeats the purpose of quantities social research and not a true indication of public opinion. Just saying...and i always give true, concise answers so shouldn't be screened out for making silly remarks that aren't relevant to topic.

Why do most of the fools making TV shows and movies these days insist on having the characters swearing/cursing for almost every second word?? Comedy shows, drama shows, etc. - they're all doing it. It's just pathetic and lazy, and completely unnecessary.
allinyourhead
because it makes life realistic, how many of you folks that are complaining about it swear/curse yourself in life, there is an off button

Last Tuesday, I opened a packet of six lamingtons and while I was counting how many pieces of desiccated coconut they each had on them, pieces kept falling off and I had to start over. .Anybody had that happen to them while you are popping bubble wrap ?
APB
This is a problem that a lot of people have and I'm glad you brought it up.....use a fine needle to release any pressure in the packaging ...then gently remove the top of the packaging with a sharp scalpel....leaving the base and sides...then apply several layers of spray glue (hairspray can be used) and allow it to fully dry before counting..I find that usually works...(and of course when you have finished counting..you can spray them all over with glue and throw them at the walls...family members..and/or people you don't like..) ..if you usually throw them on the floor and just jump on them...give them a light dusting in flour first or they will stick to you feet....

Jobs that only lasted for one generation, now they don't exist anymore. How many can you think of?
Grommie
fast photo shop, signwriters with paint brushes, radio operators at sea, photolithographers, real bank managers, typists,
if you'd asked who gets paid to do nothing, that list would have been way longer.

Irony - a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often wryly amusing as a result.

A post on our Neighbourly website: I was on a diabetes information website the other day. It asked me if I would accept cookies. Is that a trick question?

I feel that too much money leads to corruption which is rampant in our country (US). Perhaps if politicians had to retire at 65 or only serve a limited number of terms, they wouldn't be so wealthy and become corrupted over the years. What if they were paid minimum wage? Would we not have politicians at all, or would we have people who really want to make a difference without being rich and powerful?
JoeB
That’s daft, the minimum wage is far too much. Pay them the pension and see how they like it…..lol

Although some daily discussions are interesting and promote healthy debate and great exchange of ideas or entertainment, I often wonder how some topics get chosen as "Discussion of the day". What are your thoughts? Do you think they are randomly chosen, actually chosen or something else? Do you think that only topics that promote good discussions or information should be "Discussion of the Day" or are you ok with totally random ones like "Where did my sock go?" or "Do...
Uncle Peep (Robert F)
Some of the topics do seem rather silly, but it doesn't bother me at all. We can pay them back by making silly comments.

Spirit In The Sky - Norman Greenbaum The song was voted one of the top ten one-hit wonders in a Rolling Stone reader's poll. I m not religious, but it feels right.

Have you ever heard of CHOCOLATE CITY (or CHOCOLATE CITIES) with its' VANILLA SUBURBS? My piece of the rock (CHOCOLATE CITY - no - not PLYMOUTH ROCK (Pilgrims).). However, only available in America (aka racial disparity)!
Bugalugs
and the biggest racist of all are Christians! Long ago they decided that Jesus was a White, Blonde, Blue-eyed adonis because that is how the Christian Churches depicted him when the Truth is he would have had a Brown skin, possibly a dark tan due to his job as a Carpenter, Black hair and those Beautiful dark, brooding Brown eyes so many, if not all, of those natives of that part of the world have.
I do sometimes wonder if those who make so much noise, complain so much about Racism are not more Racist than those they accuse of being Racist thereby deliberately creating division where no division actually exists.
