Discussions of the day

Vehicle drivers need licenses to be authorized, Lawyers need licenses to practice law, Applying the principle for politicians will get smarter leaders to run the governing system without fear of criticism and injustice. Have them go through proper training, certification and licensing in terms of political science, communication skills and behavior. License awarding will be done through the higher government representations, i.e. UN.
Pato Lo Duck
You forgot to mention fining them or sending them to jail when they break the rules. As can happen to vehicle drivers.

What really does forgiveness mean to you? It's subject to experience and belief systems, so I don't believe in a wrong answer
PammyG
I can forgive without forgetting once trust us broken it’s extremely hard to win back. I am also a big believer in karma, what you give out will come back to you.

Sometimes you will see a lady that you do like, but you can't tell her that you love her, and she feels the same
AMUSICALTONY
IT TAKE A LONG TIME TO FALL IN LOVE. YOU HAVE TO BE FRIENDS FIRST, OTHERWISE IT DOESN'T WORK. WHEN I FIRST MET MY WIFE 45 YEARS AGO I DIDN'T EVEN LIKE HER. TODAY, I COULDN'T IMAGINE LIFE WITHOUT HER.

I disagree with the idea that parents are unwilling to listen to their children s trauma. No parent is perfect. However, if you bring a child into the world your first priority should be, always being present. Stop telling your kids that even if you were absent through their childhood, that you invested into them financially. Kids have no sense what the value of money is. A child will rather have their parent present than have a million dollars present. Anybody else feels...
Sammi
I feel that you shouldn't have children unless you are going to be there for them. I was a single mum and refused to work until they were school age.

I have recently started using the new Laundromat that has opened up down the shops. Wow, just like everything else, the prices have risen. It's now $6 for a small washing load and $8 for the larger machine. I have no idea what the dryers cost. Luckily, I only do a load of clothes and a load of linen once a fortnight. Do you think they are fair prices or too steep?
Tom S Qld
If you go to a laundromat once a week for 2 years
($8 x 52 wks x 2 = $832)
A good new washing machine will cost $800, then after 2 yrs the washes are free. The machine will probably last for 20 yrs.
If you go to a laundromat once a week for 20 years
($8 x 52 wks x 20 = $8320)
Buy a washing machine!

Would anyone else love to see the return of the Pizza Hut All-You-Can-Eat sit down restaurant which consisted of Pizza, Pasta, Garlic Bread, Salad bar, Dessert Bar and Drink refills for a set price. You would go there for a night out with your family or friends, or even have birthday parties there. God, those were the days

I find that the word 'love' has become so exhausted that it's value as an expression of feelings or emotion no longer has any worth. Where it was once used in context of your emotions towards family or intended family, has now been thrown around as a throw away line. For example, I Love that colour or music, hairstyle or article of clothing etcetera. I find myself cringing whenever someone uses this word in the wrong context that I say then what do you feel for your...

I was just thinking today and I have definitely noticed that every time it rains there doesn't appear to be any flies around at all. Why is that, I wonder, do they not like the rain.

Have you ever noticed.. whenever there is a person who has a sudden death, or major illness, that some family member runs to media, like on new-sites, to tell their sad story! Sometimes it ends up with the family member trying to raise money for some one or family left behind. Do you think this is appropriate? Life has it fair shares of sob stories, for many people. But do you think it's fair to beg money from the public? Most people don't do this!

What do you think of the GoFundMe fundraising trend? Do you think some people are misusing it for their own benefit, when it is not absolutely necessary? For those people who are in a desperate situation due to circumstances out of their control, this is a good way for others or strangers to help them. However, other greedy people are ruining it for them. What are your thoughts?
Therese M 73305
I think it should only be used for life threatening things eg operation over seas for children that needs a very large amount money .but should have proof that it's for a genuine reason .other wise I think it's begging for money and in some cases it has been proven that people have defrauded the public .when I lost my two sons I remortgaged my home for their funerals and not using people's sympathy

At my workplace, I have noticed a change in how staff culture has changed around sickness and taking time off work to recover, has anyone else? Before the days of Covid, staff would come into work with colds and coughs and "battle on" to get the work done. Now I find the staff where I work are more likely to take sick leave for colds and practice more self-care despite ever-increasing workloads. Has staff culture changed in your workplace?
Lynn
No, it has always been that way where I work. The doctor insisted. It has made no difference the Covid. I only work 1 day a week now as am retired. However, the doctor has always said if you are sick stay home as it is not fair on the patients....or him.

In a cost of living crisis, if you are a parent that has children under 5, would you reduce your work hours so that you pay less in childcare, or find a new job that pays more, so you can afford childcare? If you reduce your work hours, the risk is that you might have to change to a lower paid job, which risks your future career development. If you look for a new job to afford childcare, you risk adding more stress to a busy family of young children. What would you...
Bugalugs
If you have a partner why don't one of you stay home and look after your own children? I, and I think many others as well, get sick to death of hearing parents complaining about the cost of Childcare, that it should be Free - which simply means that other Taxpayers - some of whom have chosen not to breed - are expected - or rather it is considered their Duty - to pay for the rearing of other people's children.
If you want children then make up your minds to bring them up yourselves and put up with the inconveniences BUT do Not expect others to do it for you. If you are not prepared to rear your own children then don't have any - there are far too many people in the world already so that could be part of your contribution to addressing Climate Change!

If you could go back to when you were just starting out, what would you do differently, knowing now what you didn't know then. Would you marry the same person, buy your house somewhere different, have kids, go for more holidays or train in a different kind of work?
APB
Its a tricky one...you don't just know more now...you are probably quite a different person too...I don't know how I would get on with myself when I was 23....radically different to now....your life experiences have contributed a lot to who you are at the moment...if you tinker in the past you will be different in the present...its all connected and hopefully a learning experience

What is it like to become bald? Do you happen to know people who've experienced baldness? Do they change how they date and socialise? Would you treat or accept the hair loss?

I think the pros are you not going to waste money on something that other person don't like/need/want, but on the other hand there is not any personal input to it anymore. I know some people from my family would get really mad if I give them gift voucher for Christmas, but some would be really happy about it. Where are you at? Gift voucher yes or no?

What do you think of those people mouthing off about how certain sponsors should not be used in sport? Netball Australia has just lost a 15 million dollar deal with Gina Rhinehart and as far as I can see, over a lot of misinformation. I think almost everyone in this country is doing the best they can with being ethically responsible. I think we should get back to that old saying - do not mix sport and politics.

Personally, I don't know why anyone sponsors sports especially if they are going to be bad-mouthed over it. I never notice who is sponsoring anyone anyway and I doubt that I am the only person.

Although farming generally isn't entirely environmentally friendly, is it as bad as the media portrays? Have you done your research? Have you weighed up the environmental impacts of farming vs cities? Most farmers, especially in New Zealand, care about the environment and animals and feel misunderstood by people who don't understand what we try to do for the environment or how much we care about the land. What have you heard about farming? What do you think about it?

Farming is an ancient and noble profession. David was a shepherd and Jesus was a figurative shepherd.

Australia and the UK share to a certain extent that the local pubs and bars are HUBS, where people get together and socialise. The increasing massive taxes on beer in both countries...and possibly elsewhere too along with covid have resulted in a massive shut-down of pubs. People cannot afford to drink...owners cannot afford to stay open...and aside from other issues...this is going to radically change our society and how we live what do you think?
Gardenia
There is more to life in communities than just drinking. There might be less domestic violence for instance. there are hundreds of different ways to socialize than getting together for a drink. Some communities are being destroyed by excess drinking. Aboriginal women are being killed more often as a result. Publicans have exploited customers for far too long. It is time to enjoy each other's company without the effects of liquor.

There are more women in Australian prisons than ever before. And once they're out, they're very likely to reoffend and end up back inside. Why are so many women going to jail these days?

Never heard about this. Maybe it's mental illness on the increase? Perhaps alcohol and drugs? Is it really increasing or is it just increase in population (more people = more criminals though the proportion may still be the same).

Why are the Hospital Insurance Funds pricing us out of being able to afford the insurance? Is it deliberate, because as we get older, we need more medical care, or do they just not care about us older, loyal customers. I do believe the technology era is making us part of it too. How will people feel in the future when machines replace essential jobs? And then not essentials, but as many as machines would cover. Can you imagine coming to school without a teacher? Can you imagine coming to a supermarket without the usual counter stuff or people who sort out all food on shelves? Can you imagine buses and trains without drivers? No doctors or nurses, no postman, no barrister or...

There is a place for technology. Personally it has spread my "social life", Can chat with people I have met from other countries. Some people deserve to lose their job to machines, at least machine might be polite and actually try and help.Maybe a machine will not indoctrinate child to their own views as many teachers do.There are pros and cons. It just happened today, around midday. Waiting in a bus stop. Another woman was waiting as well, for the same bus. Exceptionally cold, windy day. The bus came in time - we waved, and the bus simply rushed by! Deliberately, without hesitation. The driver would have plenty of time and distance to stop. Shocking. Recently I saw an article that a woman calls for "only adult flight" after she experienced a few hours flight with a screaming child. Well, it was a bit brave from her to say that. Yes, it's not fun when a child screams on a plane, but what parents actually can do? They never know how the child is gonna react, and sometimes it can be unavoidable to fight with a child. I became a caregiver 4 and a half years ago. I had to give up any chance of working. A caregiver is on call 24 hours a day. There are flexible hours, but I needed to be at home all the time. Especially in the beginning. If it wasn't for survey sights, I would have gone broke and crazy. Why don't governments help caregivers? What can be done to give them a living wage?
Pearlz
Some years ago I sprained my ankle, 2 weeks later I broke my knee, 2 weeks after that during a routine X-ray the doctor found my ankle was broken. My cast was getting bigger but just as I was starting to feel better renewed pain in my foot sent me for another X-ray and the other side of my ankle was broken. As I was very incapacitated my husband had to take time off work without pay and we felt it very unfair that we weren't entitled to any form of Government assistance. So no pay and loads of medical bills while other people manage to get heaps of assistance. All caregivers should get some sort of assistance.
06-Nov-22

If so, what did you see hear smell or feel that couldn't be explained by the five senses. What was your response? Did you share your experience with others?
Pearlz
I have never had a Paranormal experience but I do sense things. I will go to the letter box and know that a certain letter that was not expected is in it. I also know who people are despite never having met them or even seen them before. I used to know who was on the phone when it rang, now it tells me so I don't know if I can still tell who it is. My daughter and I would go shopping in different places but when we got home we would find we had been in the same stores but in different suburbs, and bought the same things. There are other weird things like knowing what people are going to say on TV or know the plot way ahead of time. I don't think it's supernatural or anything like that, I just put it down to being super attentive and noticing things other people don't.

There are a lot of different ideas when it comes to what age a child is old enough to have a pet of their own to care for and be responsible for the needs of the animal. What is your best guess as to when a child is old enough to take on that responsibility? All kids mature at different rates, so keep that in mind and if you have a personal situation in your family or a family you know of going through it, please share what's worked and what hasn't. An animal joins the family. They are not toys to be left at the mercy of a child to learn how to look after. The child learns to take care of the animal by others in the family teaching him/her, leading by example.
The animal will bond with someone, and it may not ne the child.
If you are not animal lovers I would not suggest getting any pets at all.

After reading some of the comments below, makes me realise How lucky I am. We own our home, I have a Dept of Vet Affairs pension, Hubby is currently on jobseeker kind of payment but is experiencing ill health (nothing major). We don't drink or smoke, we enjoy a few hobbies: I love crafts like knitting (make some presents or sell items) we both like reading (library) He is into golf (Budget allows a regular game) He likes jigsaws... had so many and they didn't sell on marketplace so we have started up a jigsaw exchange at a local hall. Do you think this should be bought back? I think that if a school-leaver has not found a job within 6 - 12 months, then joining the defence forces would not be a bad thing. It would get these people off the dole, could train them in specific areas and as well as this, you can never have enough trained forces people to protect our country. I know many people would say that this takes people's freedom away, but in the long run I can see the benefits.

Isn't it interesting that some narrow minded people think that solving the unemployed youth issue is as easy as throwing these kids into the armed forces.
Endemic societal issues cannot simply be solved by handing a kid a gun. The root cause needs to be addressed. That cause starts in the home the school the social group and the online barrage of garbage children face every day from the likes of online forums such as face book.
Do not use the armed forces who do a fantastic job of protecting our democratic freedoms as the channel to fix issues that need to be addressed by all.
The ADF does a great job encouraging people from all walks of life to serve and protect.
And to Bob F...below you say use diplomacy? Tell that to Putin and his mates in Iran North Korea and China.

units have their down side, as no gardens for people loke me i like a garden. And a house you can please yourself ,myself i enjoy growing vegies and pottering around the garden.

Have you ever been to a nude beach or the nudest colony? Is it something not acceptable to you, or do you find it to be natural?
Nan
In Tasmania an American came and saw a beautiful valley, bought it and arranged to have some cabins built. With a big privacy fence. He returned to open a nudist camp in May to find snow and freezing wind. He never opened his camp.

It s getting that way now if we need to see a doctor, and you have only just moved to a rural town, you have to go on a waiting list. Old doctors are retiring and generally not being replaced. We are on a waiting list of at least 300. And we have only been here for nine months! All the fines that the government manage to collect through their revenue raising schemes should be put towards the health/hospital system and if anything is left over, fix the bloody roads!
Thylas
It can be a nightmare to see a doctor in rural towns. And to make things worse, in our town the clinic insists that if you need to book an appointment, you need to ring up at a quarter to nine in the morning so they can slot you in. Any other time you ring up they simply brush you off and tell you to call at that specific time the next day. Trouble is, you try to ring at that time, and every man and his dog is also trying to ring through, and the line is so busy you can never get through. It's crazy. And now even pensioners are asked to pay a gap fee to see a doctor. There's no bulk billing anymore. As if everyone is not financially stretched enough at this time due to inflation!! I can see many people not bothering to see a doctor at all now when they really should be, and then getting really sick, perhaps even dying. Clearly $20 might not seem a big deal to politicians and to those running the clinic, but it's a lot of money to pensioners. And if you arrange a consultation via telephone the gap fee is even more - $27. How do they work that one out? I thought the whole point of tele-health appointments was to encourage people to take it up, especially with COVID over the last few years. But why do this when it's cheaper to physically see the doctor?

As you age, do you find yourself reminiscing on your earlier years? Do you look back with fondness or regret? Would you change some of your choices, or are you happy with your outcome? What would you do differently?
Michelle S 553303
I'm almost 58 and my dad is 83 years old. I was emailing him on Monday and I told him how sorry I was that it was a very difficult day for him. You see it would have been my brother's 56th birthday except that he died 3 years ago in a car crash. As it was just my mum, dad, brother and myself growing up it is now only my dad and I who survive today as my mother passed away nearly 20 years ago. He said to me "Michelle, every day is a memory day". I told him that I'm finally old enough to understand that each day you find yourself reflecting on memories from the good, the bad and the ugly things that you've experienced in life and I find myself starting to play the "what if" game! What if I hadn't gone out to the disco and met the man who would have become my husband and the father of my children when I was supposed to be staying at a friend's house and not going out at all or what if I had been content to stay at the house my family had been living in, paid that mortgage off and reduced my full-time work to part-time and stayed home more often with my kids, instead of insisting that we renovate the home that I had inherited 75% of which was really my dream to do and to honour the memory of the ladies who gave it to me, but ultimately led to my husband going off with another woman he met while I was at work doing night shifts as an RN and then led to me ultimately having to walk away from and go bankrupt. I could do this all day but the nights are the worst. I don't think when I was younger that I could perceive of me at 57, hardly able to walk, with very little money and without an ability to do the things I used to love, including my job, and existing in constant pain. THIS me was abstract like a Picasso and bore no resemblance to who I am today and I think that we all reach a point in our lives where we can reflect on the good, the bad and the ugly and some of us can find peace in that, but I look back on my life, on my kids and EVERYTHING else and I ABSOLUTELY wish, with ALL my heart, that I hadn't ever been born! Thanks for reading.

Aside from World Peace and Justice for All, (no, really, I do want that), I'd like a comfy pair of slippers/loafers, a good box of gooey chocolates and someone to help me tidy/arrange my house - so's I can keep it that way. Too much? Looking about me now, I think world peace would be easier to achieve, lol. We can only hope!

Up all night! Be damned. The fat free loading bugger sneaks around peeping through bedroom windows to check on kids. He then breaks into houses to drink all the beer and snack on a few biscuits. I got arrested when I tried doing that type of thing. No one wanted me to come back the following year.

More jobs seem to be available to work from home. Is this a good thing or does working from home cut people off from everyday people to interact, and it's going to be a negative change. Is working from home better for mental health, or do we need to interact with people in person to stay mentally healthy?
JP
I have worked from home for over 5 years, At the beginning it was hard but once I got into a routine I found that from a productivity perspective I was much more productive. I was able to manage my increasing workloads and I have had no mental health issues as I still get to interact with colleagues via TEAMS and ZOOM. I appreciate that working from home is not for everyone but I think that COVID has brought home the possibility for employers and employees to work together to make sure that both benefit from the arrangements.

I don't know if it's universal, but where I'm living (Australia), it's getting harder and harder to buy a house young. Does anyone have any tips?
Bugalugs
Isn't the problem today that people want their McMansion, a huge house with 6 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, 3 car - they must, of course, be BMWs, Mercedes 4WDs - Garages, the obligatory Pool, Top-of-the-range BBQ, A kitchen with the latest hi-tech, most expensive equipment, a den, an office, a rumpus room, a formal lounge or two. Yes, you can have all trhat straight away IF you win Lotto but you know that is in all probability not going to happen.
Our parents started Small and gradually over the years moved into, if not bigger, certainly better houses. Today's younger people want, no they Need, Instant Gratification, they think they are Entitled to it - despite not having the money to pay for it.
As we have seen in Australia, and reportedly overseas as well, there was a huge spike in the price of houses in recent years, Interest Rates were low, and Yes, Australia's Reserve Bank told us that they would remain low until at least 2024 which was wrong but it was inevitable they would start to go up sometime. Young people kept on borrowing huge amounts of money without giving a thought to the future. They wanted and "Must Have" everything. Interest Rates started to rise and have kept rising. House Prices are dropping, wages are remaining stagnant and now people are in trouble. Their houses are now worth less than what they owe the banks, eventually people won't be able to keep up the payments, the banks will foreclose and then what? People will start demanding that "The Government does something". I make no apology for writing this, but people have brought this on themselves. Greed and Self-Gratification are now the God Kings.

Recently as I scrolled through Instagram looking at my friend s holiday activities, it struck me that we all have different interests and hobbies. One family I know makes time to plan a family backpacking adventure every summer. Another one travels across the country to attend a sporting event together. Others love the beach, or watching musicals, playing board games or exploring their hometown together as a family. So there s no one perfect family activity your ideas for...
Gigi
Being together without contention and not having to be doing something special to have good, quality time with your family. It's the little things that matter most. Sure doing activities is great. But it isn't a prerequisite to quality time with family. Just be....and appreciate each other.

Recycle all your plastic bags to the supermarket, I even use potting mix bags, cut off top and bottom, & one side, put on the line and brush off dirt when dry. It is amazing how much you get in just one week, I dry frozen vegetable bags on the line too. Every little bit you can do will help our planet. I also wash eggshells & let dry then when I have lots I blend them finely and add to garden, excellent calcium which rots down slowly.
Pearlz
Goodness me. I don't have enough time to go to those lengths. I recycle as much as I can but some of the symbols are quite difficult to see. I wonder why there are so many. I feed the food the cats leave to the neighbourhood fox and birds and I compost all tea bags, egg shells and veggies peelings and garden waste so I feel I pretty well do my bit.

I have recently become disabled with arthritis in my knees, back and most other spots. I walk with a walker and probably not far from being wheelchair bound. I am grossly overweight now I have found out that most places of business have sitting chairs with arm rests on them. So disabled people have problems sliding onto a chair with arms, let alone an obese disabled person. Sitting on a walker is not comfortable, and I think not meant to be for a long time. I have often...

I try to do a pre check of any place i am going with hubby. He drives a power chair-he only has minimal use of thumb and forefinger in left hand so has a joystick control. But boy does he plough his way through a shop and if something is in the way the chair will get through...he doesn't care if his presence is made known. I hate scenes so run ahead making way. Can be v stressful. Some shops are so cluttered and aisles tiny..it sucks and makes me so mad. Esp shops such as 2$ shops- where we would like to go since we no longer have money- but they are terrible for w/chairs and walkers etc. Have complained to Mall but they said it was the shop owners responsibility. Sigh. We don't have an issue with seats as hubby has his w/chair at least. And if a seat is in the way at a cafe table he will nudge it out of the way with his w/chair. Going out is quite nerve-wracking. We never go into our previously loved 2nd hand shops- too cramped and crowded- and he drove out once with a clothesrack accidentally attached to the back of his headrest..sounds funny now but not at the time. Also he rammed into a giftcard carousel on purpose after the shop owner (another 2$ shop) told him off for accidentally knocking something in the over crowded store. He backed up his chair like a bull and started driving towards it..i knew he couldn't be stopped and i hid around the corner.

The weather seems to be getting much colder in Winter and hotter in Summer - Is this Climate Change or just that we feel it more in our bones etcetera as we get older?
Christina C 466456
Our bodies change a lot over the years so no doubt we will feel a lot different at varying ages. Our ability to repair, hormone differences, body composition and even the weather contributes to how we feel. So there's a lot of factors.
As for arthritis it is an 'inflammation' disease and we know that there are a lot of lifestyle changes we can make to improve and sometimes eliminate the issue. Firstly changing diet can have a dramatic effect for some people. Did you know that turmeric has such powerful antiinflammatory chemicals in it that it matches nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs? There are a number of other foods that reduce inflammation as well like foods rich in carotenoids/beta carotene or vitamin A - a powerful antioxidant. Vitamin E is also good not only for it's antiinflammatory properties but also due to its role in collagen production which we all know is important for joints. Good sources of vitamin A are sweet potatoes, carrots and leafy greens - basically all the bright, vibrant fruit and veggies. For vitamin E there nuts like almond but also cold pressed extra virgin olive oil is one of the best sources of vitamin E you can get. Also vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and also crucial for collagen production. Another good food for joints is gelatin which is basically denatured collagen - have about 20 grams of gelatin powder (the regular/plain/unflavoured gelatine powder that you use to make cheesecake/jello etc that you find in the baking section at the supermarket) a day which should give adequate levels of glycine for good levels of collagen production. I prefer food source of gelatin over supplements industry products as the food industry has much more stricter quality control than the supplements industry which is not as heavily scrutinised, which is one reason why most registered dietitians recommend getting your vitamins/minerals from your diet over supplements.
Another important factor is body composition, particularly the type of fat that is in your body - white fat (stored fat) is highly inflammatory while brown fat (fuel) is antiinflammatory. So losing excess fat should be top priority for joint pain management. We can either exercise, diet or get cold/start shivering more (up to 13°C seems to be the magic number where your body starts using white fat as fuel to try and keep warm) to convert white fat to brown/metabolically active fat. So the cold is actually good for you in this case!
Another method to manage inflammation is intermittent fasting as fully fasting (zero calories) contributes to repair and antiinflammatory processes within the body.
Finally moving more/cardio and building muscle helps to support your joints by strengthening muscles and bones so that they can handle some of the load.
Hope this helps :)

Our house is packed of stuff we don't need. I am really thinking about downsizing the house and also stuff we collected over the years. Hi APB I live in a Ryman Retirement Village called Keith Park in Hobsonville in Auckland. We have a 3 bed apartment, two bathrooms, and a patio, total 112sq meters and we have two car parks. Our village will not be finished for at least another 12 months, We are ground floor for our two cats who also enjoy living here. There is nothing beige here, the building look bright and modern. Google us to see. We have so many activites Ryman have employed a full time person to organize them. We play bingo on Monday nights. Nothing depressing here it is all go go go. Nothing is too much bother for the staff they even water our patio garden when we are away. It is way better than some hotels we have stayed in. With their security there is little chance of a break in or your car being stolen. That gives you cheaper insurance, all in all its a WINWIN situation.

In this technological world, where machines are replacing by human power in each corner of life. We are surrounded by machines, and now restaurant owners want to replace staff to robot servers.
Christina C 466456
Yeah why not. A robot wont cough/breathe covid onto my food, pass on hepatitis or be rude.
In Japan they have these robot waiters which are remotely connected to customer service people - some of which have disabilities, so it gives them a job plus merges the human aspect of customer service into the android. I thought that was quite neat.

The best part of my day is after I have fed my cats, made the bed, had breakfast, done the dishes, swept the floor, dusted, done a couple of loads of washing and hung it out, ironed, either walked or used the treadmill, had lunch and cleaned up, pulled a few weeds, gone shopping if I need anything, fed the cats, prepared dinner, checked my emails, done the dishes, checked the bills, had supper then lights out. Then I may be able to go to bed without any cats, in which case I am able to sleep in any position I want. Tomorrow is another day.

The main difference is you cannot have one without the other. Kindness simply proceeds in Gratitude, they both go hand in hand. How do you practice Kindness and Gratitude? Notice good things, look for them, and appreciate them. Always express gratitude, write it down or thank someone.
Bugalugs
In an ideal world Kindness would always be followed by Gratitude. In today's "ME First. Last and Always" world, Kindness is not always followed by even an acknowledgement - a simple "Thank You" is enough. Has modern society destroyed relationships between men and women irreparably? The growth of radical men's groups encouraging men to give women a wide berth are gaining popularity in this time of political correctness while in Japan, men and women are choosing the single life in growing numbers. What do you think is the solution?
Pearlz
It's all about selfishness. It's all about me, me, me and not us. I have watched as people care far more about themselves now and their feelings. How else do you explain so many relationship breakdowns? People have no respect for one another, or integrity, honesty, manners or loyalty. I met my husband when I was 16 and at 18 needed my parents permission to marry him. When we tell people we have been married for almost 55 years instead of congratulating us people make jokes such as you don't get that long for murder. Shouldn't a marriage that has lasted that long be valued or even admired instead of denigration?

With the shortages of staff in hospitals, wouldn't it be a good idea to bring back some of the matrons that did hands-on training in hospitals. As I remember, we had some really great nurses trained in this way. Instead of sending them off to University, they could be trained in the same manner as apprentices. It could help fill the hole that we have now, with shortages all over Australia.
Pearlz
The problem is that nurses are sent to university then into hospitals. In the old days you started emptying bed pans before you decided whether or not it was the profession for you. Now they are sent to university then have to empty bedpans. Wouldn't it be a bit of a shock after years of schooling? Why would anyone spend years studying then perform back breaking work, changing dressings, wiping bums and the like when they could be earning much more in the corporate world. Starting at the bottom then studying your way to the top is always the best way to fill the ranks.

Let's say it was you planning a surprise party for a friend, family member etc. what kind of party would you plan and what kind of food would you have? I have planned a surprise party for my husband's 40th, never in my life attempted to do such a thing, so one day the thought came to my head and I spoke to my mother-in-law and she supported me in my decision, I choose a restaurant in Moonee Ponds. Just had mainly family and a few of my hubbies friends. it was a nice group of about 30 people. I had organized the date/time venue menu /birthday cake . All I told my husband was that on the day we were going out for dinner for his birthday although I didn't want him to see where we were going, I got him into the car. Blindfolded him and held on to his hand and guided him while walking, when I got him inside the venue all the family gathered ready to greet him once i took the blindfold off him he got the biggest and most unexpected shock of his life. My husband could not believe how I could keep such a secret, because I am one who gets exciteded .

Recently we are researching a move to a country area from the city, and I was angry at the high cost of going through this transition. It is like a minefield. Stamp duty, capital gains, agent's fees, removalist costs, legal fees etc are far too high. To make this move, why are we going to lose over a $100,000 of our hard-earned money. In a time of housing shortage in cities, why isn't this process a lot easier and cheaper? Any thoughts from your experiences?
Christine M 323842
To buy another house you are entering into the very same problem that the rest of Australia is facing- its expensive
All those costs unfortunately either come with the cost of real estate purchase , and the income generated by the increase in value upon sale. Or just with moving home, it’s too much, I agree.
At least you are not facing homelessness like many of us who don’t own a home.

It's like everything else in nature, it changes. Some years we have lots of snow or frosty mornings. Some years we have lots of rain. Years of droughts and years of floods. Look back at history and you'll see Egypt had droughts then floods. It's just a natural cycle. However, when it comes to damage that is purely due to population. We have always had hail storms. I have photo's of me as a child holding huge hail stones, but back then there wasn't much damage. About 6 years ago a hail storm went through and our house fared pretty well but a new suburb that had just popped up and had 4 houses per quarter acre instead of 1 copped it badly. All you could see was blue tarps over roofs, and they were there for months with not enough tradesman and insurance companies trying to assess the damage. The storm was no worse than usual but there were far more homes than previously.

There are always friends like this, I'm telling a friend that I have a genetic disease, and then they say, you need to exercise more, you need to drink more water, and say something encouraging to me. To me, very annoying. Why don't they understand? This is a hereditary disease, not something that can be changed by exercise. You can't change what's in my body's genes, If it can be improved by doing some exercise, They are not called genetic diseases. But that person is...

I have a very large backyard pool with all the required fencing and surrounds. The pool inspector visited our house, and it did not pass inspection because of a spindly, scraggy shrub outside the fence the first time that inspection cost $350, the final inspection we passed another $200 paid. We also replaced one fence that was deemed pool safe a few years ago, but is now longer deemed safe. We will have to pay to have the pool inspected all over again in 3 years time...
JoLongLegs
we had an outdoor spa and had to do the same thing, the cost was getting ridiculous, so we pulled it out and filled it in.

Work? Stress? Fun? Why do you think are women over 40 drinking more? And what could be the health implications?
Lachelle B
According to who? It's ok for 20-30 year olds getting blotto every weekend and contribute to populating the world unintentionally, but once a 40+ gets on it it's an issue? I'm stoked when I see a 40+ get absolutely annihilated at Melbourne Cup in their heels, fascinators and a lovely set of designer gear with a camera on them:) I'm 48 and the only person I know who goes overboard is my sister. So where's the rest of them?

A wise man said that you start out owning possessions but at some point, those possessions end up owning you....if you had to lose all your personal possessions...and just share everything...what would be the one personal object you would want to keep?
WonkyandProud
Knowing me, it would be something sentimental and totally useless to me! If I was being practical, I would keep my laptop or a telephone. Does this mean we are naked? If so, I'd keep my Eeyore Jammies! LOL

People can be influenced by lots of factors. Content can be really relevant for our decisions, being a more obvious persuasion, such as an ad, or a more implicit one, such as the memes we see on the internet. Memes can make us decide to listen to a song, which we start liking as a joke, but some days later it is already on your playlist. Who did not start listening to Never Gonna Give You Up or Super Idol after the memes? Memes can make anything irrelevant become...
Sandra C 12043
Memes don't interest or influence me in any way. As for social media I have FB only with messenger only to keep in touch with family & friends in another state or overseas. I am private with friends & family so don't have all the distractions that some have. If that's what you like then that's fine but I'm not interested.

A lot of people believe that there is more life out there in the universe, and the others believe we are the only ones in this huge universe ... What do you believe in?
Sandy G 969046
In the vastness of this Universe, we would be foolish and arrogant to think that we are the only life occupying it.

I m facing the very real possibility to have full upper dentures. I m very afraid. Many people wear dentures, I d like to ask your experiences. Is it very uncomfortable? Is it possible to get used to it?! If you have one, do you wear it all the time? Thank you
Disie
I just got a partial upper plate but wasn't ready for the lack of taste and texture. Not having the food on your palate takes that. You still taste, but it's not as intense. I actually cried when they told me. So I understand your hesitancy. The one question I'll ask is; Is it necessary for you to eat properly and still have healthy gums and teeth? If so, keep your teeth for as long as possible,

Do you believe that every person, female and male, should have to serve 2 full years in the military? Immediately after graduation from high school. Thoughts.
Steve
No
not military service
But National Service
To be trained to help in National Disasters
Like we’ve had lately

If you knew tomorrow was going to be your last day on earth, what would you spend today doing?
Dang Ling-bits.
Slowly killing the guy who run over my pet frog Jumpy. That happened when I was 5 and I have never forgotten my little mate Jumpy.

We are both in our fifties. Have grandchildren. Thinking life would get more slower but no. Had a great car but needed to upgrade to a 7 seater, as now I have days when I have all 4 grandchildren that need to be dropped off at school & daycares, and they all need car seats. But I m loving it. How many other people have been thinking life would slow down or be more flexible?
Pauline T 68358
In your fifties, that is young, don't worry, by the time you get to almost 90, you will have slowed down!!!!! Guaranteed !!!!!

If you could go back into the mists of time, way Way back- is there a subject or skill you wished you had learned at school? I would have liked to have done History and Art History, and Car Mechanics. Not that the latter was offered at our Religious girls school back in the 70s n early 80s. A class on how to avoid getting very drunk and making a total ijit of yourself would have been useful too.
Larry S 382961
shouldn't the question be what didn't you want to learn at school.
I hated Maths B and could never understand why A + B =C.
I liked geography and maybe that is why i like to see places

Whether you're walking back to the stove twice or 3 times to ensure that there's no heat ....what obsessive thoughts make you check on the check? And what is it that you have to repeatedly check on to make sure it REALLY GOT DONE?
Cassandra B 208821
As someone with ADHD and OCD this is a far too common occurance to even try and tally how many times i do it.

I have a very unpopular hobby that is not appreciated. I like to take pictures, but I'm not even a photographer. I just like to take pictures. My original interest is to like to draw, but then I like to take pictures. It can also express fine arts. But when I tell others that I can take pictures, but others will laugh, who can't take pictures? Everyone takes pictures, right? But I'll go and study the composition of the photo, etc. I feel relaxed when I take pictures, I...

I build stone walls as a hobby - all over my property - some are structural, retaining walls and such, some are purely decorative, fantasies… my whole family thinks I’m crazy.
